Seth Towns, a standout from HBCU basketball, has made his return to Harvard University, this time stepping into the role of assistant coach. This announcement comes just ahead of the 2024-25 season and was revealed earlier today.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Seth back to Harvard Basketball and to the larger Harvard community,” said Amaker. “Seth truly exemplified our program’s values as a ‘Scholar and Baller’ during his time as a student-athlete and has shown remarkable resilience and determination throughout his journey. Rather than taking the conventional paths, Seth has consistently forged his own way and made his mark. We eagerly anticipate the positive influence he will have on our current athletes.”
Towns’ eight-year college basketball journey began in 2016 when he chose Harvard over Ohio State and the University of Michigan. During his tenure at Harvard, Towns garnered various accolades, including AP Honorable Mention All-America honors and being named Ivy League Player of the Year. After facing several seasons marked by injuries, he resumed his college basketball career at Ohio State University.
However, Towns again encountered challenges with injuries, sitting out the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Last year, he utilized his eighth and final year of eligibility to transfer to Howard University. Earlier this year, Towns discussed his experience at an HBCU.
“I can say that it’s a true honor to play for an HBCU,” he reflected. “It’s one of the more empowering experiences I’ve ever had. It transcends basketball and our performance on the court. It’s about the spirit that we embody and the men we become. This deep introspection has driven our team to achieve breakthrough moments. We play for something greater than ourselves, and I believe we all recognize that.”
