Uber has recently made a heartfelt statement regarding the tragic death of former HBCU basketball coach Samuel Jackson, who was reported missing earlier this year. The news comes as law enforcement takes a major step in their investigation: a person of interest named Iquane Brown, aged 30, is now in custody at the Houston County Jail. Brown faces serious charges, including armed robbery, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Alarmingly, reports indicate that Brown requested an Uber ride from Jackson, just hours before his disappearance.

In light of these developments, Uber expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are heartbroken for Mr. Jackson’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. We banned the rider’s account and are supporting law enforcement with their investigation. We hope those responsible are brought to justice swiftly.” This statement reflects their commitment to safety and accountability, especially at such a difficult time.

Samuel Jackson, a long-time fixture in the basketball community, was a resident of Fort Valley, Georgia. His disappearance concluded tragically when his body was found in Atlanta on a Wednesday, following his last known communication on January 26. His wife, Jill Jackson, becomes a focal point in this saga; she reported him missing after their last exchange, during which they discussed his plans to begin working as an Uber Eats driver. She received a concerning text from him at 2:15 a.m., asking for his social security number, and when he didn’t respond after that, her alarm bells rang loud and clear, compelling her to notify the authorities.

Investigation teams traced Jackson’s movements through GPS data from his silver 2018 BMW 540i. Surveillance footage from a Dollar General in the Warner Robins or Macon area placed him there around 10 p.m. that evening, but after that, the trail went cold until the discovery of his body.

Coach Samuel Jackson leaves behind a remarkable legacy in college basketball. He was the head coach at Fort Valley State University from 2011 until 2018, during which he led the Wildcats to several winning seasons and made two appearances in the SIAC championships. His tenure ended with his resignation in the fall of 2018. Before his time at Fort Valley, he was an assistant coach at Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama, shaping the future of many young athletes along the way. His role as head coach at Savannah State University also highlights his extensive experience within the collegiate sports arena.

Beyond coaching, Jackson’s journey began as a talented player. He captained the basketball team at the University of Montevallo, where his skills earned him all-conference honors. Following his college basketball career, he took to the court professionally in the Continental Basketball Association and played semi-professionally with the Birmingham Magic, showcasing his passion for the game.

In the midst of this heartbreaking situation, the impact of Coach Jackson’s life resonates with community members who knew him or felt his influence through his work. His legacy as a coach and player continues to inspire many, reminding us all of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing our loved ones. As the investigations unfold, our thoughts remain with Jackson’s family, friends, and those who were touched by his dedication to basketball and mentoring the next generation of athletes.
