Victor Wembanyama is gearing up for his sophomore season with the San Antonio Spurs after an impressive rookie campaign that saw him secure the first overall pick and earn the title of NBA Rookie of the Year. Following his successful debut, Wembanyama highlighted his talents on the global stage by helping the French national team clinch a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

Recently, Wembanyama appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and took the opportunity to share reflections on his basketball journey. In the accompanying interview, he openly addressed how his views on certain NBA stars have evolved over time.

“I think both in a good and bad way it’s how truly the best in the game are. How in a good way some of them are really impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night,” Wembanyama commented.

“But others that I used to like, and now I’m just like, nah. I’m not sure that they deserve, you know. They don’t seem like they put as much work as I thought,” he continued.

But some of them—I’m talking like KD—of course, you know I got to know Rudy Gobert more with the national team; I know their work ethic. I know how they view the game, and it’s really inspiring. With the Spurs, Wembanyama is preparing for their upcoming preseason matchup against the Houston Rockets on Thursday.
